JOB LOCATION: Onne,  Nigeria
West Africa Container Terminal Nigeria Limited (WACT) is a joint venture company of A.P. Moller A/S operated by APM Terminals and situated at Onne, Nigeria, strategically located as the closest gateway to the fast growing Easter Nigerian markets.

WACT is looking for a "Head of Technical" whose key role will be to oversee all Technical areas of the company.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Create and implement cost efficient maintenance programs following OEM service recommendations to achieve highest levels of equipment availability and reliability,
  • Manage the maintenance and repair of all terminal assets and equipment and ensure that breakdowns are repaired promptly and that the repair work does not disrupt terminal operations i.e extensive understanding of all areas of Technical,
  • Prepare and control the budget of the Maintenance Department,
  • Sets goals and objectives for Maintenance services and the organization,
  • Analyses performance statistics and trends in order to identify areas for improvements and cost savings,
  • Ensures good communications between Maintenance and Operations departments to minimize equipment downtime,
  • Be the Safety lead for the Technical organization and work closely with the head of HSSE to ensure safety policies, rules, and regulations are reviewed and implemented in all maintenance areas and activities,
  • Analyze training requirements for all maintenance personnel and ensure appropriate technical training is provided for various levels of staff,
  • Ensure all maintenance activities and equipment performance data are closely monitored and logged into CMMS,
  • Plan and set procedures and standards to manage work flow and roles of personnel in the Technical organization,
  • Seeks out best practices within the industry to ensure continuous improvement within the organization,
  • Participate in negotiations for equipment and spare parts ordering.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
  • College degree in marine engineering, mechanical or electrical engineering,
  • 5 years experience at a Managerial level in charge of lifting and container handling equipment maintenance,
  • Extensive knowledge of general HSSE issues and familiarity with maritime codes,
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation, basic financial related matters, and reporting against financial objectives,
  • Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills, as well as excellent managerial skills, including planning, organizing, and directing work,
  • Good understanding of IT & Computerized Maintenance Management systems,
  • Good verbal and written communications skills in English,
  • Proven interpersonal and people management skills,
  • Perform s general administrative and supervisory duties to fulfill the requirements of the position,
  • Ability to work under pressure, anticipate potential problems, diagnose, evaluate and resolve problems as they happen,
  • Extensive knowledge of Hydraulic Systems, Air Systems, Engine and Transmission repairs, Power requirements & repairs.
