IITA Current Jobs in Nigeria: Recruitment for Research Associate, Senior Nursing Officer, Vulcanizer

THE ORGANIZATION:

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals for the following position at the Institute’s Headquarters, Ibadan.

POST TITLE:   Research Associate (2-year renewable Contract)

JOB DUTIES:

Successful candidate will among others things perform the following:

• Establish and manage field and screen house experiments on yam breeding and genetics both on and out-station,
• Manage technicians and other support staff in yam breeding unit,
• In coordination with Yam Breeder prepare weekly plan for all field workers and
• Technicians,
• Collect, organise and manage data entry from yam breeding experiments for statistical processing
• In coordination with Yam Breeder and Biometrician, process and analyse data from yam breeding experiments and prepare technical reports,
• Organise, monitor and report on national (Nigeria) and regional (West and Central Africa) collaborative yam trials with partners,
• Manage the propagation, characterization and dissemination of improved yam germpfasm in response to requests,
• Maintain regular communication with clients and partners of the unit,
• In coordination with Communication Unit and Yam Breeder, prepare training material on Yam,
• Train students and relevant staff of partner agencies in yam breeding methodologies.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy or Crop Management plus at least five years of certified experience in Plant Breeding.

The ideal candidate must:

• Possess working experience/exposure in international  organizations and interdisciplinary agricultural research,
• Be familiar with agricultural, and farming systems in West and Central Africa,
• Have working experience with yam (Diascorea spp). Participatory approaches will be an asset,
• Be able to demonstrate team management skills,
• Be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
• Be proficient in the use of computers, database management software, statistical analysis software, internet-based toots and other electronic communication tools,
• Be fluent in oral and written English; with some working knowledge of French,
• This position is based in IITA Ibadan, Nigeria, and involves substantial domestic and international travel outside duty station.

POST TITLE:   Senior Nursing Officer (2-year renewable Contract)

JOB DUTIES:

Successful candidate will among other things perform the following:

• Relieve the nurse in-charge of Clinic coverage, outside office hours and during her off days,
• Carry out health education in all areas of nursing practice,
• Undertake clinical consultation when the need arises,
• Perform general nursing, duties such as checking of vital signs, giving of injections,
• immunisation,   wound   dressing, management of very ill patients etc.,
• Replenish the clinic emergency box and resuscitation trolley as need arises,
• Costing of drugs,
• Any other duties as may be necessitated by the absence of any other member of the health team.

OTHER EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

Minimum educational qualifications required: at least four (4) of the

following:

• Registered   Nurse Certificate/Registered Midwife Certificate.
• Family Planning Certificate,
• Diploma Public Health Nursing,
• B.Sc Nursing/Bachelor of Nursing Science,
• Post Basic Nursing Certificate in Theatre Techniques,
• Post Basic Nursing Certificate in Paediatric Nursing,
• Nurse Practitioners ‘Certificate,
• A minimum of five (5) years experience in at least three (3) of the following:
• Accident and Emergency Unit,
• Outpatient department and medical wards,
• Family Planning Unit/Family Health Unit,
• Maternal Child Health Unit.

POST TITLE:   Vulcanizer

JOB DUTIES:

Successful candidate will among other things perform the following:

• Removal ad fitting of tyres,
• Repair of tyres and tubes,
• Whel balance “on and off”,
• Identify and guage pressure of different sizes  of tyre,
• General cleaning of the workshop,
• Any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum educational qualifications required: First School Leaving Certificate and Trade test III with minimum of three’ (3) years relevant working experience.

The ideal candidate must:

• Be able to identify different sizes of tyres and their pressure requirements.
• Have thorough knowledge of tractor tyres removal and fitting.
• Be young, strong and energetic.
